Kona coffee, Hawaii’s own coffee flavor, has been grown for over two centuries. Small farms dot the Mauna Loa Hills on the Kona side of the islands. 800 feet above sea level and an excellent climate for coffee growing has allowed the Kona flavor to be enjoyed the world over.
The Kona coffee plant was imported to Hawaii in the 18th century, many of the plantation farmers who decided to plant these coffee plants did very well until the crash of the coffee market around the 19th century.Workers then assumed the task of properly aging the coffee beans, since plantation owners basically abandoned the crops. Eventually, individual families were able to buy five acres of the orchard of coffee plants, and many continue to be family-owned farms today, the descendents of the original 1800s workers.

While it may seem easy to purchase Kona coffee, without the seal of approval from the Kona coffee farms you're not drinking 100% pure Kona coffee. The Kona coffee bean is grown on the islands of Hawaii at 800 feet above sea level in the north and south Kona mountain districts.
Over 600 distinct different farms are being farmed in the hills of Mauna Loa and Mount Hualalai by farmers who have been working the land since the 19th century. At one point time in the 1800's the coffee plant was imported to the Hawaiian Islands, plantation owners then began to grow coffee and developed the Kona flavor. Around about the 19th century a crash in the coffee market happened and many of the plantation owners abandoned their farms to the workers.Workers continued to develop the unique Kona flavor and were eventually able to buy the plantations from the original owners.
