A Look At The C9, S9 And Z5 One-Touch Espresso Makers By Jura Capresso

Jura Capresso currently manufactures four espresso machines that can be described as One-Touch. To simplify things somewhat the Jura Impressa Z6 will be excluded from this discussion as functionally it is practically identical to the Jura Z5. The remaining three One-Touch models are the Jura Impressa Z5, Jura Impressa S9 and Jura Impressa C9.

Before looking at these machines though, what do we mean by One-Touch? Basically, this is a unique design feature where the espresso and milk spouts are directly adjacent to each other meaning you need to do nothing more than press a button to make your favorite cappuccino or latte beverage. You don’t even have to move your cup.

The first thing to look at is price. The top of the line model is the Jura Impressa Z5 at $3,000, followed by the Jura Impressa S9 at $2,400 and the Jura Impressa C9  at $1,800.

So, if you are interested in the least expensive One-Touch it would be the Impressa C9. Aside from price the major advantage of this model is its size; it is only 11″ wide and 17″ deep making it the most compact One-Touch coffee center on the market today. With this smaller size comes some compromises in capacity. The water tank of the Jura C9 is only 64 ounces as compared to 96 ounces for the other two models and its bean capacity is only 8 ounces versus 10 ounces. Finally, when it comes to frothing after brewing the C9 requires a 10 to 20 second heat-up time while the S9 and Z5 are designed to froth immediately.

All three models offer a variety of beverage buttons. The S9 and Z5 having slightly more customization possible but the C9 is not at all limiting. Although it should be noted that the Jura S9  and Jura Z5 do feature a very handy “double-cup” feature. How this works is that two of the programmable buttons also have “double-cup” buttons right next to them which you guessed it, automatically produce two of each of your pre-programmed drinks on demand.

Aside from the differences already noted the Jura Impressa S9 and Jura Impressa Z5 offer 5 coffee strength levels and a 20oz insulated milk thermos versus 3 strength levels and a 14 oz insulated milk thermos for the Jura Impressa C9. The primary differences between the S9 and Z5 are the Z5 offers 3 temperature settings versus 2 for the S9 and more durable construction including a die-cast coffee spout whereas the S9 offers a active cup warming platform.

To sum up, the C9 is probably the best One-Touch for you if you are not concerned with its reduced capacity and are willing to wait a little longer for your specialty drinks. The Jura Z5 is for the coffee drinker who appreciates a truly hot drink or values top notch quality and design.
